First things first

Getting started

No app store, no download โ€” TwoNests runs right in your phone's browser. It works best added to your home screen (see the "Add it to your home screen" button on the homepage), but you can also just keep the browser tab.

๐ŸŒฑ If you're starting your family's TwoNests

  1. Open the app and choose "I'm a parent, starting fresh."
  2. Add your child's name, birthday, and pick Two Nests or Nesting (you can change this later in Settings).
  3. Set your own name and a username/password โ€” this is how you'll log back in on any device, no code needed.
  4. You'll get an invite code to send your co-parent โ€” text or email it straight from the app.

๐Ÿค If your co-parent already set things up

  1. Open the app and choose "I'm a co-parent, joining a family."
  2. Enter the invite code they sent you, then set your own name and a username/password.
  3. You're in โ€” full access, same as any parent in the family.

๐Ÿซถ If you're a grandparent, babysitter, or other supporter

  1. A parent adds you to their Village tab and taps "Invite to join" to generate your own code.
  2. Open the app, choose "I'm joining to support a family," and enter that code.
  3. A parent approves you and chooses exactly what you can see (calendar, care, moments, etc.) โ€” nothing more than that.
Already set up? Just open the app โ€” if you've logged in before on this device, it remembers you. Otherwise use "Log back in" with the username and password you chose.
One app, two setups

Choosing your arrangement

TwoNests works two different ways depending on how your family actually lives โ€” pick one during setup, and switch anytime from Settings.

๐Ÿก๐Ÿก Two Nests

Your child moves between two separate homes. The calendar labels moves as Custody events, shift patterns fill in as color-coded work-shift blocks, and Handoff is built around drop-off/pick-up moments.

๐Ÿก Nesting

The child stays in one home; you and your co-parent rotate in and out. The calendar shows "on duty at the nest" blocks instead of custody moves, and Handoff becomes a changeover checklist for switching who's "on."

See the interactive comparison on the homepage for more detail on exactly what changes.

Screen by screen

Every screen, explained

Here's what each tab does and how to use it.

๐Ÿ‘‹ Home

Your day at a glance โ€” for whichever child is currently active, and whichever day you're looking at.

  • Use the โ€น โ€บ arrows next to the day heading to look back at yesterday, or ahead to tomorrow (and beyond) โ€” a "Jump back to today" link appears whenever you've wandered off today.
  • Shows everything logged that day: food and bottles, naps/sleep, medications given, what's on the calendar, plus your most recent notes and moments.
  • A birthday banner appears automatically on a child's actual birthday, and a "coming up this month" reminder shows in the weeks before.
  • If a medicine dose is due right now, a reminder appears here so it doesn't get missed.

๐Ÿ“… Joint Calendar

One shared calendar โ€” both parents add to it, both parents see everything on it.

  • Tap ๏ผ‹ Add an event, or tap any day on the grid, to see what's already scheduled and add something new.
  • Use the โ€น โ€บ arrows next to a selected day to step through one day at a time, or the month arrows to jump a whole month.
  • Events can repeat โ€” daily, weekly, or custom days โ€” and get their own color dot per parent, so whose event is whose is clear at a glance.
  • Shift/duty days get a full colored fill on the grid (blue for one parent, magenta for the other) โ€” see the legend under the calendar.
  • Tap โœ๏ธ Edit or ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ on any event to change or remove it โ€” for a repeating event, you can delete just one occurrence or the whole series.
  • A child's birthday shows up automatically every year with its own ๐ŸŽ‚ badge โ€” nobody has to add it by hand.

๐Ÿ” Shifts & Nest Duty

Tell it your rotation once, and it fills your calendar automatically โ€” built especially for shift workers with rotating or overnight schedules.

  • Set your pattern: days on, days off, clock-in/clock-out times, and how far out to generate it.
  • It builds directly into the shared calendar as color-coded blocks โ€” everyone can see who's working (or on duty at the nest) and when.
  • Add more than one pattern if your schedule isn't a single simple rotation, or remove one you no longer need.

๐ŸฆŠ Care

Food, sleep, medicine, and potty โ€” the day-to-day details, logged so nothing gets lost between two homes.

  • Food: log meals (what, how much) or switch to ๐Ÿผ Bottle to log ounces and formula-or-breast-milk instead โ€” useful for infants not yet on solids.
  • Sleep: log bedtime or naps, with a 1โ€“5 star rating and optional notes.
  • Medicine: add a medicine with dose and schedule, then log each dose as it's given โ€” everyone sees who gave the last one and when the next is due.
  • Potty: switch between potty-training mode (success/tried/accident) and diaper mode (wet/bowel movement/both) depending on where your child is at.
  • If your family has more than one child, switch which child you're viewing right from the top of this screen.
  • Allergies (set per child in Settings) show as a banner right on this screen as a reminder.
  • Everything here can be edited or deleted after the fact โ€” tap โœ๏ธ or ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ on any entry.

๐ŸŽ’ Handoff

A shared checklist for pickup, drop-off, or a nest changeover โ€” so nothing gets left behind, without any scorekeeping.

  • Add checklist items (favorite blanket, meds, homework) and check them off as they're packed.
  • Tap ๐Ÿš— I'm on my way to give your co-parent a heads-up.
  • House notes at the bottom is a running note for chores, restocking, or house rules that help the handoff go smoothly.

๐Ÿ’› Moments

The little things worth remembering โ€” shared between both homes.

  • Share a quick written moment, or attach a photo/video with ๐Ÿ“ธ Add photo/video.
  • Tap any photo or video thumbnail to open it full-size (videos play right there with sound/controls).
  • Mark something as a milestone (first steps, first word, and more) to add it to the milestone timeline.
  • Mark something as a favorite to make it eligible for the occasional memory pop-up โ€” a little "just because" surprise on an ordinary day.
  • Edit or delete any moment with โœ๏ธ / ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ.

๐ŸŽˆ Ideas

Free and low-cost things to do together โ€” every family starts with a bank of about 35 ready-made ideas, no setup required.

  • Tap ๐ŸŽฒ Surprise me when nobody can decide โ€” it picks one at random.
  • Tap the ๏ผ‹ on any idea to schedule it: pick the date and time yourself, and it's added straight to the shared calendar.
  • Add your own ideas, tagged by cost (free/low cost) and category (outdoors/home/creative).
  • Edit or remove any idea, including the starter ones, at any time.

๐Ÿซถ Village

The people who help your child feel loved and safe โ€” brought into exactly the parts of the app that are relevant to them.

  • Add anyone โ€” grandparent, babysitter, teacher โ€” with their name, relation, and contact info.
  • If you have more than one child, you can assign a village member to just one of them instead of the whole family.
  • Tap โœ‰๏ธ Invite to join to generate a one-time code for them โ€” you approve them before they can see anything, and choose exactly which tabs (calendar, care, moments, etc.) they get access to.
  • Revoke access anytime, or edit/remove someone from the village entirely.

๐Ÿงพ Shared Costs

A light running record for shared expenses โ€” here if you need it, never the focus.

  • Log a cost with an amount, category, and optional receipt photo.
  • Set your agreed split (not everyone splits 50/50 โ€” drag the slider to whatever's fair for your family).
  • The balance at the top shows who owes who, measured against that agreed split, not a flat assumption.
  • See totals by category, and a running list grouped by month.

๐Ÿ’Œ Notes

Quick, kind words for each other โ€” not a chat log, not a record, just the small things worth saying.

  • Write a short note and send it โ€” it shows up for your co-parent right away.
  • Edit or delete any note afterward.

โš™๏ธ Settings

Everything about how your family and account are set up, in one place.

  • Add, edit, or remove children โ€” name, birthday, allergies, and their emoji.
  • Update your name, username, and password (or reset a password for someone who's still logged in, if they've forgotten theirs).
  • Share your invite code to bring in your co-parent.
  • Switch between โ˜€๏ธ Light, ๐ŸŒ™ Dark, or ๐Ÿ“ฑ System appearance.
  • Switch your arrangement between Two Nests and Nesting anytime.
  • Turn features on or off for the whole family (Care, Moments, Ideas, Shared Costs, Notes, Shifts) โ€” handy if your family just doesn't need one of them.
  • The ๐Ÿ’ฌ Feedback & bug reports section right here sends bugs and ideas straight to the developer โ€” see Getting help below.
Optional ยท court-ready

โœจ TwoNests Keep

Everyday TwoNests is free. If your family ever needs a reliable, court-ready record โ€” a court order, a high-conflict stretch, or a professional who needs to see things โ€” Keep is the optional layer for that. See the full Keep page ยป

โš™๏ธ Turning it on

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ TwoNests Keep and switch it on. Either parent can enable it for your shared space.
  2. Your tabs settle into a calm workspace: โœจ Keep, ๐Ÿ’ฌ Record (messages & calls), ๐Ÿ’ธ Money, ๐Ÿ“… Calendar, and ๐Ÿงธ Care.
  3. Turn it off anytime โ€” every warm feature comes right back, nothing deleted.

๐Ÿ”— Sharing with a professional

  1. Open Record โ†’ Share a read-only link and send it to your attorney, mediator, or guardian ad litem.
  2. They can view the record but never change it, and you can revoke the link whenever you want.

๐Ÿ“„ Exporting for court

  1. Use Export for a clean, paginated, timestamped copy you can hand an attorney or file.
Keep is flat-priced for the whole family ($149/year or $15/month โ€” not per parent), and if it ever lapses your records stay readable. Full detail on the Keep page.

โœ๏ธ Everything you add โ€” food logs, sleep, medicine, potty entries, moments, ideas, notes, calendar events, village members, handoff items โ€” can be edited or deleted afterward. If you log something by mistake, you're never stuck with it.
